Lucas Bergvall could be in line for a positional switch as Tottenham Hotspur prepare for a crucial Premier League clash against Aston Villa this Sunday.
Naturally a central midfielder, the Swedish youngster has already shown he can operate further forward or even in deeper roles during his time in North London. That versatility may now prove vital.
With Xavi Simons ruled out for the rest of the season and Dominic Solanke also expected to miss the trip to face Unai Emery’s side, manager Roberto De Zerbi may be forced into a tactical reshuffle.

One potential solution could see Bergvall return to the starting XI in a more advanced role.
Tottenham insider John Wenham believes the 20-year-old could be deployed either on the left wing or as a number 10. Speaking to Tottenham News, Wenham suggested a possible attacking setup featuring Randal Kolo Muani on the right, Richarlison centrally, and Mathys Tel on the left.
He added that Bergvall’s energy, drive, and willingness to push forward could make him effective in a more attacking position, where he may find opportunities to influence the game.
Statistically, there are signs that Bergvall could adapt well. He completes 61% of his dribbles—an encouraging figure for a player operating in wide areas—and averages 0.5 shots per game along with 6.6 passes in the opposition half.
However, there are areas for improvement. His crossing accuracy sits at just 16%, and he loses possession an average of 6.1 times per match—numbers that would need tightening if he’s to thrive in either role.
Still, Bergvall has already demonstrated his ability to adjust when called upon. With Tottenham’s season hanging in the balance, De Zerbi may be ready to trust the youngster in a new position as Spurs look to fight their way out of danger.
