Tottenham doctors block player from training amid internal bleeding concerns

Tottenham Hotspur are closely managing Luka Vušković’s injury situation during his loan spell at Hamburg SV.

The young Croatian defender joined the Bundesliga side last summer and has impressed with consistent performances, even attracting interest from top European clubs like Barcelona and Bayern Munich.

However, his progress has recently been disrupted. Since returning from the March international break, Vušković has featured just once after picking up an injury in training. The issue forced him to miss Hamburg’s last three matches, and he is still working his way back to full fitness.

Initial reports suggested a knee knock, but further details revealed internal bleeding in the joint, which has complicated his recovery.

Hamburg director Claus Costa previously explained that such injuries can be difficult to manage, as the bleeding affects stability and control in the knee, making recovery slower than expected.

Recent updates indicate that Tottenham are taking no chances with the 19-year-old. The club reportedly wants full control over his rehabilitation and must approve any return to training, despite initial resistance from Hamburg.

Spurs are keen to avoid any setbacks that could worsen the injury or impact Vušković’s long-term development—whether that’s a future role in North London or a potential high-value transfer.

At the moment, the defender has not trained for around three weeks and remains a doubt for Hamburg’s upcoming clash against Eintracht Frankfurt. With only a couple of games left in the season, time is running short for his return.

Despite the setback, there are some positive signs. Vušković has resumed light work with a rehabilitation coach, and Hamburg manager Merlin Polzin has noted that the player’s pain has eased, offering hope of gradual progress.

For now, though, Tottenham are prioritising caution over speed as they monitor the teenager’s recovery closely.
