Tottenham Hotspur could be set to land João Palhinha for less than expected this summer, with Bayern Munich reportedly eager to offload the midfielder after a disappointing spell.
Spurs brought the Portuguese international to north London on loan from Bayern Munich last summer, including an option to make the move permanent. However, the club are reluctant to trigger the €25–30 million clause and are instead exploring the possibility of negotiating a reduced fee.
The German champions originally paid around €51 million to sign Palhinha from Fulham in 2024, but the move has not gone to plan. Under Vincent Kompany, the 30-year-old struggled for consistent game time, leading Bayern to loan him out just a year later.
Reports in Germany have labelled the deal a costly misstep, with Bayern now keen to cut their losses. The club are said to be open to selling the midfielder permanently, even if it means accepting a significant financial hit.
That situation could work in Tottenham’s favour. With Roberto De Zerbi rebuilding the squad, Palhinha remains a useful option thanks to his experience and physical presence in midfield. This season, he has featured regularly, contributing goals and assists while offering defensive stability.
However, Spurs’ league position complicates matters. Sitting just above the relegation zone with only a few matches remaining, their Premier League status will likely determine whether a permanent deal is pursued. Relegation would almost certainly end any chances of keeping Palhinha.
Even if Tottenham survive, they are expected to push for a lower transfer fee, aware of Bayern’s desire to move the player on. Negotiations between the clubs could intensify in the coming weeks as both sides look to reach a compromise.
For now, the outcome remains uncertain—but one thing is clear: Bayern are ready to sell, and Tottenham see an opportunity to strike a bargain.
