Tottenham outcast player responds to unfair criticism from Leeds manager on Spurs futur
He has only played six times for Tottenham in all competitions since 2022, so this move did not go as planned for anyone.
The Italian boss of Tottenham at the time that Spence arrived made it clear that he didn’t want to sign the player. After being asked about it by The Athletic, the 23-year-old said that he did not “have a relationship” with the head coach.
“I didn’t enjoy myself. I didn’t play when I went there, so it must have been hard for me. When you sign with a big club as a player, you expect to be sure of yourself and greeted with open arms. But when I got there, something didn’t feel right. “Things didn’t go the way I planned,” Spence said.
“As a player, you can’t do much when you don’t get a chance. It’s hard to get back into the swing of things when you get lost. Going to a new place when things don’t go well is never fun, but it’s part of the game. It’s a chance to learn.”
When asked about Conte’s claim that Spence was a “club signing,” Spence said, “To be honest, I didn’t really have a relationship with him.”
“He’s a bossy coach.” His players and I don’t seem to get along very well. It’s come into school and trained, and that’s pretty much it.”
“I want to play a big role in the plan…”
Spence played on loan for Rennes and Leeds United before he signed with Genoa in January. Ange Postecoglou has been great with Spurs without him, and he “wants to play” for the Premier League club.
Spurs is the team Spence wants to play for. Let’s see how things go and talk about it with the boss and everyone else. I want to be a big part of the plan.
“The new manager has made a big difference. I trained with him during the off-season, and he’s a nice guy who runs good workouts and loves football. The club has a new vibe.” I’m happy for them because I think everyone is having fun and doing well.
“I don’t think Tottenham fans know me as a player,” he said. They may have seen me at Forest, but I haven’t played, so they don’t know what I can do.
“The best is still to come.” I can get things done right away wherever I go and show everyone what I can do.
Spence’s time at Leeds ended too soon, and the team’s boss, Daniel Farke, has since questioned the defender’s reliability. He has replied by saying that this problem has been “blown out of proportion.”
