Levy’s no1 target: The Striker Spurs wanted after Kane left is now outscoring him in 2024

Spurs fans may have been excused for beginning to fear that their team was going to undergo a bad transition when Harry Kane left in the summer, since the team finished the previous season in eighth place in the Premier League.

Despite the unexpected and daunting possibility of a barren year in Germany, Kane moved to Bayern Munich after realizing that, at thirty, winning silverware needs to take precedence. This lowly final standing meant that continental football could only be watched from a distance.

To be fair, however, the England men’s captain has been outstanding this season, with 31 goals and eight assists in 31 games across all competitions after scoring 30 goals in the Premier League for struggling Spurs in 2022–2023.

How can you replace a center-forward of his caliber? Daniel Levy, the chairman of Tottenham, apparently came to the conclusion that you couldn’t, therefore he decided not to sign a straight replacement.

Even still, the hunt for a striker continues, and at the conclusion of the season, a new face will probably be welcomed.

Tottenham’s need center-forward

Since Postecoglou’s appointment in June of last year, Tottenham has been connected to a number of possible Kane successors. Among the players who might potentially end up in N17 are Santiago Gimenez of Feyenoord, Dominic Solanke of Bournemouth, and Ivan Toney of Brentford.

Of course, it is not a complete list, and most people are unaware of another player who was highly anticipated last summer. Rasmus Hojlund of Manchester United was, in fact, on Levy’s radar, albeit it was thought to be “out of reach” before to his £72 million move to Old Trafford, according to Charlie Eccleshare of The Athletic.

Last Six PL Fixtures for Rasmus Hojlund

The budding star’s ability to get into destructive gear has been hindered by a recent muscle ailment, but Hojlund has already overcome his lack of confidence and seems to be headed for a lucrative career of prolific play.

Given that he would have been the ideal focal point to lead Postecoglou’s ambition, Tottenham must observe his goalscoring exploits with wistfulness since his natural predatory nature will not go away.

Spurs fans can see the kind of skill at Hojlund’s disposal as he has scored seven goals since the start of the season, which solidifies his reputation as a top-tier attacker in the future. This total even eclipses Kane’s in 2024.

To be fair, Kane has six goals in eight games, so it’s hardly flattering to deceive, but if Hojlund can now utilize his current purple patch as a springboard for a successful Red Devils career, he might end up sitting beside his Scandinavian counterpart Erling Haaland as the striking touchstone.

When it comes to Kane, the 6′ 3″ Hojlund is undoubtedly not of the same caliber, but after moving to Manchester, Samuel Luckhurst of the MEN called him a “unique rough diamond” because of his unique qualities, which make him an ideal fit for any ambitious Premier League team looking to succeed up front.

Talent scout Jacek Kulig called the £80k-per-week sniper a “monster in the making,” one who lives on his weaving movement and deft dribbling, stretching backlines and almost supernaturally seeing openings that most people would consider blinkered.

Of course, he would find the consistent creative supply that he hasn’t exactly had at Old Trafford with players like Son and James Maddison behind him.

It’s true that Richarlison is showing he has the capacity to replicate the recent success of Manchester United’s star player, who hasn’t been tested in the Premier League for an extended length of time, but Hojlund’s incredible offensive skill cannot be denied.

The Dane would have found Tottenham Hotspur Stadium to be an exciting place to play given the team’s stability, strength, and desire for a new talisman, but it seems that he will work at the Theatre of Dreams in the next years.

Although Postecoglou and Levy get along well, and there will be optimism that the correct player will be bought in the summer, Hojlund has just begun to demonstrate his abilities, so it might be looked back on as a regrettable lost chance.
