Player who only left Tottenham in 2021 is set to retire this summer

On their official website, Celtic announced that former Tottenham Hotspur goalkeeper Joe Hart has declared he would hang up his gloves at the conclusion of the season.

Prior to arriving to Spurs on a free transfer in 2020, Hart had a lengthy and illustrious career in the Premier League, making appearances for Burnley, West Ham United, and Manchester City.

The goalkeeper, who finished his career with 75 appearances for England, spent his one season with Tottenham mostly as Hugo Lloris’ backup.

After leaving Spurs to join Celtic in 2021, the goalkeeper said that Nuno Espirito Santo, the manager of Tottenham at the time, had shoved him out the door and told him flatly in their first meeting that he was not part of his plans (In The Stiffs Podcast via The Sun).

Hart was brought to Glasgow by Ange Postecoglou, who had seen great success there and was a major contributor to the team’s record triple the previous season.

The 36-year-old has now said that this is going to be his last season playing professionally. Celtic boss Brendon Rodgers has praised the former Spurs player for an incredible career.

“For all he has done in football, Joe deserves huge praise and congratulations. He has been such a brilliant asset to Celtic, of course, and the wider game at the highest levels, domestically and internationally,” Rodgers said on The Bhoys’ official website.

More than that, however, he is an amazing guy who is a pleasure to work with. I know that during his career, he has been a terrific teammate to many, and he is a player who always gives it his all.

“His daily work ethic serves as an inspiration to everyone in football.” I completely understand and respect Joe’s motivations for making this declaration and for being transparent with the team and our supporters on his future plans.

“I also know he will work with the same intensity, dedication, and drive that he has always been known for throughout this season.”

Although Hart did not play much in his one season at N17 and joined Tottenham in the latter stages of his career, he was a perfect professional and clearly a team player. The goalkeeper’s character appears to be highly valued by every player and manager who has worked with him.
