No need for Senesi: ENIC have already signed a “freak talent” for De Zerbi & Spurs

In a season where relegation wouldn’t be hanging over them, Tottenham Hotspur would already look like a club quietly preparing for a very strong summer rebuild. Talks have reportedly taken place over a free transfer for Andy Robertson following his expected Liverpool exit, and his leadership and experience could prove vital in reshaping the squad.

Spurs are also believed to be leading the race to sign Marcos Senesi once his Bournemouth contract expires. The Argentine defender has stepped up impressively after the departures of Illia Zabarnyi and Dean Huijsen, and now seems ready to take the next step in his career.

For now, though, everything hinges on survival. Tottenham remain just two points from safety with four games left, leaving Roberto De Zerbi with a serious task on his hands.

Why Senesi could steady the ship

On paper, Spurs’ defence should be one of their strengths — a World Cup-winning defender paired with one of the fastest centre-backs in the Premier League. In reality, inconsistency and injuries have turned it into a weak point.

Cristian Romero has struggled with discipline, while Micky van de Ven has battled fitness issues and continues to attract transfer interest. That instability has played a big role in Tottenham’s underwhelming survival fight, with some players already appearing to have one eye on the summer exit door.

Senesi, however, could bring much-needed calm. Unlike Romero, who has already seen red twice this season, the Bournemouth defender has gone four seasons without a sending-off — a sign of both discipline and composure. He also boasts stronger duel-winning numbers than both Romero and Van de Ven, suggesting he could immediately add steel and reliability to the backline.

If Spurs secure their top-flight status, Senesi looks well placed to become one of the first arrivals of the De Zerbi era.

But what about Vuskovic?

Here’s where things get complicated. Tottenham may already have their long-term solution — and they’ve arguably overlooked him once already.

Luka Vuskovic has been excelling in the Bundesliga, developing into one of Europe’s most dominant young defenders. At just 19, he’s already competing statistically with elite names, particularly in aerial duels — an area where Spurs have struggled.

In fact, only a handful of defenders across Europe can match his aerial presence, placing him in the same conversation as Virgil van Dijk. Compared to Tottenham’s current options — Romero, Van de Ven, and even Senesi — Vuskovic’s numbers stand out significantly.

This raises an important question: should Spurs really prioritise another signing, or finally trust the talent they already have?

Vuskovic isn’t just a prospect for the future anymore. His performances suggest he’s ready now. And for a club trying to rebuild while fighting for stability, overlooking him again could be a costly mistake.

Tottenham’s summer will ultimately depend on survival — but their defensive decisions could define far more than just next season.
