Five players Tottenham must sell this summer – including £30m wonderkid

Tottenham Hotspur are expected to undergo major changes this summer regardless of where they finish this season, and there is a growing feeling that several players could be moved on as the club prepares for another rebuild. After a disappointing campaign filled with inconsistency, Spurs now face some huge decisions over the future of their squad.

Even if the club manages to avoid relegation and steady the ship under Roberto De Zerbi, it is becoming increasingly clear that too many players have failed to perform at the level required. Tottenham still possess quality in certain areas, but the squad lacks balance, consistency, and reliability. A number of players are also attracting interest from clubs across Europe, which could force Spurs into reshaping the team more aggressively than originally planned.

While some departures may be unavoidable, there are also players the club should seriously consider selling in order to create room for stronger additions and a fresh direction moving forward.

One player whose future is already being questioned is Mathys Tel. When the young forward arrived from Bayern Munich, there was genuine excitement around his signing. He had already shown flashes of brilliance in Germany and was viewed as one of Europe’s brightest young attacking talents. However, his time in North London has not gone according to plan.

Although there have been moments where Tel has displayed his talent and explosive potential, those moments have been far too inconsistent. He often disappears during matches, struggles with decision-making in key areas, and has not produced the level of goals many expected from a player carrying such a significant reputation and price tag. Four goals in 29 Premier League appearances is simply not enough for a player Spurs hoped would become a game-changer.

Tottenham may now feel that cashing in on the French youngster could be the smarter option, especially while there is still strong interest in him across Europe. At his age, he could still become a top player one day, but Spurs are currently in desperate need of players who can deliver immediately rather than projects for the future.

Another player whose future remains uncertain is Radu Dragusin. The Romanian defender arrived with promise, but adapting to Premier League football has clearly been difficult for him. Even before his ACL injury, there were concerns about whether he truly possessed the quality needed to succeed consistently at the highest level in England.

Dragusin has struggled to convince defensively and has not looked comfortable against the speed and intensity of Premier League attackers. Reports linking him with a return to Serie A continue to grow, with clubs in Italy reportedly monitoring his situation closely. A move back to familiar surroundings could benefit both the player and Tottenham.

With uncertainty also surrounding Cristian Romero and Micky van de Ven, Spurs may need defensive reinforcements anyway, but Dragusin has done little to suggest he should be a guaranteed part of the club’s long-term plans.

Guglielmo Vicario is another player who may not survive the summer rebuild. The Italian goalkeeper initially impressed after arriving at Spurs and quickly earned praise for his shot-stopping ability and confidence on the ball. However, over time, weaknesses in his game have become more noticeable.

Vicario has struggled under pressure from crosses and set-pieces, while his decision-making has occasionally cost Tottenham valuable points. While he remains a capable goalkeeper, there is a feeling that he may not be strong enough to become the long-term answer for a team hoping to compete at the highest level again.

Interest from Serie A clubs could provide Tottenham with an opportunity to move him on and search for a more commanding presence between the posts. There also appears to be a growing belief that the goalkeeper himself would welcome a return to Italy if the opportunity arrives.

Manor Solomon is another player who seems destined to leave permanently. Since joining Spurs from Shakhtar Donetsk, the winger has never truly managed to establish himself within the first-team setup. Injuries and loan spells have prevented him from building momentum, and his latest temporary move away from the club suggests Tottenham are already prepared to move forward without him.

Currently on loan at Fiorentina, Solomon has shown flashes of quality but has not done enough to guarantee a major role at Tottenham next season. The Italian side reportedly have an option to buy him permanently, and Spurs will likely hope that deal is completed before the transfer window closes.

His wages are manageable and there should still be interest from clubs looking for an experienced wide player, so Tottenham may not struggle too much to find a suitable solution.

Finally, there is Pape Matar Sarr, perhaps the most difficult name on this list. Unlike some of the others, Sarr still has age on his side and continues to show commitment every time he steps onto the pitch. His energy and work rate remain valuable qualities, but there is growing concern that his development has stalled.

The Senegal international has not fully established himself as a dominant midfielder in either attack or defence. He works hard and covers ground, but there is still uncertainty over what his strongest role actually is. With Tottenham already possessing several midfield options, including Rodrigo Bentancur, Conor Gallagher, Lucas Bergvall, and potentially João Palhinha, Sarr could become a player the club sacrifices in order to strengthen other positions.

Reports linking him with Turkish giants Galatasaray and Fenerbahce suggest there would be interest if Spurs decide to sell. If a strong offer arrives, the club may view it as an opportunity too good to ignore.

Tottenham’s squad clearly needs fresh energy, stronger leadership, and more consistency if the club wants to return to competing at the top end of English football. Tough decisions will need to be made this summer, and for several players, their time in North London may already be coming to an end.
