46% win rate for Tottenham under referee for Leeds fixture, yellow card record a bit of a concern

Tottenham Hotspur head into Monday night’s massive Premier League showdown against Leeds United with another potential concern hanging over them after Jarred Gillett was confirmed as the match referee.

The 39-year-old official has overseen 15 Spurs matches during his career, with the North London side winning just seven and losing eight — a disappointing 46 per cent win rate that will do little to ease nerves around the club ahead of a season-defining fixture.

Roberto De Zerbi’s side are already under enormous pressure in their battle for Premier League survival, and supporters will remember that Gillett was also in charge during Tottenham’s damaging home defeat to West Ham earlier this year.

Leeds United, meanwhile, appear to have enjoyed far better fortunes under the Australian referee. Gillett has taken charge of 10 matches involving the Yorkshire side, with the Whites recording three wins and four draws during that period. He has already officiated five Leeds matches this season, including their FA Cup semi-final clash with Chelsea at Wembley.

One area likely to concern De Zerbi is Tottenham’s disciplinary record under Gillett. While the referee has generally shown leniency this season — averaging 3.55 yellow cards per game — Spurs have historically collected an average of 2.5 bookings per match under his watch.

That statistic becomes more worrying considering Tottenham currently rank among the Premier League’s worst sides for fouls committed this season, averaging 11.9 fouls per game. With emotions expected to run high in such a crucial fixture, maintaining discipline could prove vital.

Craig Pawson will serve as VAR for the encounter, assisted by Nick Hopton, while Neil Davies and Steven Meredith will run the lines. Thomas Kirk has been appointed fourth official.

Despite the referee concerns, Tottenham know the focus must remain on securing three priceless points. With results elsewhere potentially shaping the pressure even further before kick-off, Monday night could define the direction of Spurs’ entire season.
