Manchester United are reportedly preparing to make a summer move for Tottenham Hotspur striker Dominic Solanke despite the forward currently being sidelined through injury.
The Red Devils are expected to prioritise attacking reinforcements ahead of next season, and Solanke has emerged as one of the names admired internally at Old Trafford following his impressive performances in North London. United’s recruitment team are believed to value the England international’s physical presence, pressing ability and Premier League experience as the club looks to rebuild its frontline.
However, any potential approach comes at a difficult moment for the 28-year-old after he suffered a grade-two hamstring injury during Tottenham’s 1-0 win over Wolverhampton Wanderers on April 25. Solanke was forced off before half-time in that match, with the injury expected to keep him out for a number of weeks.
Despite the setback, Manchester United reportedly remain undeterred in their admiration for the striker and are expected to monitor his recovery closely ahead of formally opening discussions this summer.
Solanke has enjoyed an important role under Roberto De Zerbi this season, becoming one of Tottenham’s key attacking figures during a turbulent campaign for the club. His work rate, movement and ability to lead the line have attracted praise even as Spurs continue battling inconsistency and pressure near the bottom half of the table.
Tottenham are unlikely to welcome interest from a direct Premier League rival, especially considering Solanke’s importance to De Zerbi’s plans. The North London side only secured the striker’s services recently and still view him as a central figure for the future once he returns to full fitness.
Manchester United, meanwhile, are expected to be active in the transfer market after another disappointing season. Injuries and inconsistency in attack have exposed the need for a reliable centre-forward, with Solanke now believed to be among several options being considered by the club’s hierarchy.
Whether Spurs would even entertain negotiations remains unclear, but United’s interest could become one of the major talking points of the upcoming summer transfer window.
