Tottenham’s ideal 2026/27 squad – Rashford chance and £21m man joins De Zerbi rebuild

Tottenham Hotspur could undergo a major squad overhaul ahead of the 2026/27 season if they manage to secure Premier League survival under new manager Roberto De Zerbi.

It has been a difficult campaign for Spurs, who only recently ended a long winless league run and remain in a relegation battle with just a few matches left. If they stay up, De Zerbi is expected to reshape the squad significantly to avoid another fight at the bottom of the table.

Goalkeepers

Guglielmo Vicario has been Spurs’ first-choice keeper since 2023, but his future is uncertain amid reported interest from Inter Milan. That could open the door for Antonin Kinsky, who has impressed in recent appearances despite earlier setbacks, to step up as the new number one.

Tottenham are also being linked with Freiburg’s Noah Atubolu as competition, while Brandon Austin would remain as third-choice.

Defenders

Survival would help Spurs retain key defenders such as Cristian Romero, Pedro Porro, and Destiny Udogie. However, Micky van de Ven could be sold, with Liverpool and Manchester United reportedly interested.

To replace him, Bournemouth’s Marcos Senesi—available on a free transfer—has emerged as a target, alongside Andy Robertson, who is expected to leave Liverpool.

Luka Vuskovic would return from loan to provide depth, while Kevin Danso remains part of the setup. Radu Drăgușin is expected to leave, with Djed Spence providing full-back cover. Young left-back Souza is likely to go out on loan, and Ben Davies is set to depart when his contract expires.

Midfield

João Palhinha’s loan from Bayern Munich could be made permanent for around £21.7m. Spurs are also expected to keep Archie Gray and Lucas Bergvall as part of their long-term project.

Pape Matar Sarr could leave amid interest from Fenerbahçe, while Yves Bissouma is nearing the end of his contract. The return of James Maddison and Dejan Kulusevski from injury would be a major boost.

Xavi Simons, Rodrigo Bentancur, and Conor Gallagher are also seen as key midfield options.

Forwards

Spurs’ attack could see major changes. Randal Kolo Muani is unlikely to stay after his loan, while Richarlison and Mathys Tel have struggled for consistency.

The club have been linked with Marcus Rashford, who could arrive if he fails to secure a permanent move away from Manchester United or Barcelona. He would likely feature on the left wing, with Wilson Odobert offering backup.

Jarrod Bowen has also been mentioned as a possible signing, while Mohammed Kudus would compete on the right side.

Dominic Solanke would remain the main striker, with Al-Hilal’s Marcos Leonardo considered as a potential backup option.

Projected squad overview

A possible 25-man squad would include: Kinsky, Atubolu, Austin; Porro, Spence, Romero, Senesi, Vuskovic, Danso, Robertson, Udogie; Palhinha, Gray, Bergvall, Gallagher, Bentancur, Simons, Maddison, Kulusevski; Bowen, Kudus, Rashford, Odobert; Leonardo, Solanke.

If completed, the rebuild would mark one of the most significant overhauls in Spurs’ recent history under De Zerbi.
