‘Even though he is my son’… Tottenham’s number 1 target slammed by his dad after international performance

Tottenham Hotspur are reportedly focusing on a key striker target this summer following the sale of Harry Kane to Bayern Munich.

Despite putting faith in Richarlison and Heung-Min Son, and bringing in Brennan Johnson from Nottingham Forest, Spurs are in need of a prolific goal scorer to ensure a stronger finish in the Premier League and secure a Champions League spot next season.

Sources have revealed that Spurs’ top target for the striker position is Santiago Gimenez from Feyenoord. The Mexican forward shone under Arne Slot in the Eredivisie last season, netting 26 goals in all competitions.

This impressive performance has caught the attention of Tottenham, who see Gimenez as an ideal signing at a relatively affordable price of £42 million.

Despite his club success, Gimenez has faced criticism for his performances on the international stage with Mexico. At the Copa America, Mexico suffered a 1-0 defeat to Venezuela, and Gimenez’s performance was scrutinized.

His father, Christian Gimenez, who was working as a pundit, offered a candid assessment: “He had an option that, to be honest, the centre forward of the Mexican National Team has to put it in… A goal chance like this makes the difference between Rondón and Santi today.”

Critics like Esto have described the team’s performance as “grey” due to Gimenez’s “imprecise” play. However, Christian Gimenez believes his son needs the confidence of his coach to perform at his best. Under the guidance of Ange Postecoglou, Santiago Gimenez could thrive at Tottenham, given the right support and confidence.

One of Tottenham’s significant challenges last season was their reliance on Son for goals. Bringing in Gimenez, who demonstrated his scoring prowess at Feyenoord, could alleviate this burden.

His ability to find the back of the net could significantly enhance Tottenham’s attacking options and overall performance.

Tottenham are not the only club interested in Gimenez. European giants like Inter Milan and Atletico Madrid have also shown interest. Despite this, Spurs must prioritize securing Gimenez’s signature to bolster their attacking lineup and avoid the pitfalls of a lackluster goal-scoring record.

Tottenham Hotspur’s pursuit of Santiago Gimenez represents a strategic move to address their goalscoring deficiencies and strengthen their squad ahead of the new season.

While his international performances may have raised some eyebrows, Gimenez’s club form and potential make him a valuable addition. With competition from other top European clubs, Spurs need to act swiftly and decisively to secure their top target.
