Tottenham make informal £30M proposal to sign “superb” player from Man City

Tottenham Hotspur are reportedly making significant moves in the summer transfer market, including an informal £30 million proposal to sign Manchester City’s promising defender, Yan Couto.

As manager Ange Postecoglou balances his pundit duties at Euro 2024, he remains focused on the necessary changes to his squad for the upcoming season.

In May, Postecoglou emphasized the need for change within the team. “We need change. Change has to happen. You can’t want to alter your course and expect the same people are going to be on that. It’s just not going to happen,” he stated.

Postecoglou’s remarks highlighted the importance of a new mindset and approach to reach the club’s goals, drawing comparisons to the transformative journeys of Liverpool and Arsenal.

Tottenham have already made their first signing of the summer, securing Timo Werner on a season-long loan from RB Leipzig, with an option to buy for around £8.5 million in 2025. This move indicates the club’s proactive approach in the transfer market.

Strengthening the defense is a priority for Postecoglou, with Tottenham reportedly leading the race to sign Lutsharel Geertruida from Feyenoord.

The Dutch right-back could join the Spurs for approximately £25 million. In addition to Geertruida, Tottenham are targeting Manchester City’s Yan Couto.

According to recent reports from Spain, Tottenham, along with Aston Villa and La Liga side Girona, are vying for Couto’s signature. The Brazilian defender has spent the last two seasons on loan at Girona, demonstrating his potential and versatility. Spurs have shown strong interest in Couto, with a proposal that could exceed €35 million (£30 million).

Manchester City would prefer not to sell Couto to a direct rival like Tottenham or Aston Villa. However, the financial incentives could make a move to the Premier League a viable option for the Brazilian, especially since Girona might struggle to match the offers from English clubs.

Couto, primarily a right-back who can also play further forward, is 22 years old and is under contract with City until 2025.

Football Talent Scout Jacek Kulig has praised Couto as “superb,” and although he has yet to make an appearance under Pep Guardiola, his potential is undeniable.

If Tottenham succeed in signing him, Couto could make his Premier League debut with the Spurs, adding depth and versatility to the squad.

The potential signing of Yan Couto, along with other targeted acquisitions, reflects a commitment to evolving the team and achieving success in the upcoming season.

As the transfer window progresses, Tottenham fans will eagerly await further developments and new arrivals at Hotspur Way.
