Tottenham dealt brutal injury blow as defender forced off against Aston Villa

Tottenham supporters were dealt a harsh blow as star defender Micky van de Ven suffered another injury setback.

The Dutch player, who has proven to be one of Ange Postecoglou’s key signings, was forced off the pitch after just 49 minutes during Tottenham’s 4-0 victory over Aston Villa.

Van de Ven’s injury occurred following a crucial sliding block on Leon Bailey, after which he signaled discomfort in his hamstring.

The sight of their influential center-back going down was undoubtedly concerning for Spurs fans.

Despite the setback, Tottenham swiftly regained momentum in the match, with James Maddison scoring shortly after Van de Ven’s departure, followed by Brennan Johnson extending the lead to 2-0.

Villa’s hopes were further diminished when John McGinn received a red card in the 65th minute for a reckless challenge on Destiny Udogie.

Heung-min Son and Timo Werner later sealed the victory, bolstering Tottenham’s chances of securing a top-four finish.

However, the potential absence of Van de Ven due to injury could pose challenges for Tottenham in the long term.

Signed for £34.5 million from Wolfsburg last summer, the 22-year-old has made a significant impact for the team.

Van de Ven had previously endured a lengthy spell on the sidelines from November to January due to injury.

During his absence, Tottenham secured the services of Radu Dragusin from Bayern Munich in the January transfer window as a temporary replacement.

With Eric Dier’s departure to Bayern Munich also in January, Dragusin is likely to see increased playing time in the absence of Van de Ven.

Postecoglou may heavily rely on the Romanian defender to fill the void left by Van de Ven’s injury and provide defensive stability for Tottenham.
