Tottenham just made £51M bid to sign player who wants to play for Arsenal – journalist

Tottenham has recently tabled an offer to acquire Frenkie de Jong from Barcelona, as reported by Gerard Romero.

The bid stands at €60m (£51m) for the Dutch midfielder, according to Romero’s disclosure.

In addition to the monetary offer, Tottenham has proposed a four-year contract to De Jong, including provisions that would enable him to match his current salary at Barcelona by meeting specific performance targets.

This contractual structure seems logical considering De Jong’s current weekly wage of £231,000 at Camp Nou.

De Jong has featured in 23 matches across various competitions for Barcelona this season, finding the net once.

Interestingly, despite Tottenham’s pursuit, De Jong had previously expressed a desire to play for their arch-rivals, Arsenal.

In a 2019 interview with Voetbal International, the midfielder revealed his envisioned career trajectory, which included stints at Ajax, Arsenal, and eventually Barcelona, following the path of former player Marc Overmars.

However, Barcelona’s early swoop in January 2019, securing De Jong in a £65m deal from Ajax, diverted his anticipated route.

Now, with Barcelona facing financial constraints, the possibility of De Jong’s departure looms.

In addition to De Jong, Tottenham has reportedly shown interest in acquiring Brazilian talent Raphinha, who is also said to be on the market.

As the summer transfer window approaches, developments in these potential transfers warrant close observation.
