Spurs are leading line to sign forward after January offer rejected
According to CalcioMercato, Tottenham Hotspur are now leading the fight to capture Albert Gudmundsson next summer after Genoa rejected Fiorentina’s bid for the forward during the January transfer window.
In January, Tottenham paid £26.7 million to sign one of Genoa’s greatest players, Radu Dragusin.
It was earlier rumoured that the Romanian was not the only Genoa player on the Premier League’s radar, with Genova Today reporting two months ago that the Lilywhites were also keeping an eye on Gudmundsson.
The Icelandic international, who can play as a number 10 or on either wing, has been on fire this season, with 11 goals and three assists in all competitions (Transfermarkt).
Tottenham lead the chase for Albert Gudmundsson
According to CalcioMercato, Spurs are still interested in Gudmundsson, with Ange Postecoglou’s team ranking ‘above all’ in the fight for the player.
According to the source, Genoa rejected Fiorentina’s offer of €22 million (£18.7 million) plus incentives for the 26-year-old, which fell short of their asking price of €30 million (£25.6 million).
According to the publication, the Serie A club rejected down the approach because they are convinced they will get more offers for Gudmundsson next summer, especially because Tottenham is ‘incessantly chasing’ him.
In Our View
It is too early to speculate on Tottenham’s summer objectives, but Gudmundsson would surely fit into Postecoglou’s system due to his adaptability. Spurs might attempt to take advantage of their ties with Genoa to sign the 26-year-old.
