‘Travelled for medical’: Romano says £45m midfielder Spurs reportedly want is now closing in on PL rival move

Tottenham Hotspur are gearing up for a busy summer transfer window as they aim to strengthen their squad ahead of the next season.

With Ange Postecoglou at the helm, Spurs have shown significant improvement since the 2022/23 campaign, and their future looks promising.

However, to compete at the highest level, Tottenham must bolster the overall quality and depth of their squad.

One of the critical areas that Tottenham needs to focus on is the midfield. Over the past few months, Spurs have been linked with several midfielders to enhance their options in the middle of the park.

Chelsea’s Conor Gallagher has emerged as a key target, but Spurs have also shown interest in other standout players, including one who shone in the Championship last season.

Fabrizio Romano recently reported that Leicester City star Kiernan Dewsbury-Hall, who played a crucial role in Leicester’s promotion back to the Premier League, is set to join a rival Premier League club.

Despite Tottenham’s interest, it appears that Dewsbury-Hall is on his way to Brighton, having a medical at the south coast club.

Leicester City’s return to the Premier League comes with the necessity to comply with the top flight’s Profit and Sustainability Rules (PSR).

The club reported a pre-tax loss of £89.7 million for the 2022/23 season, meaning they must manage their finances carefully and may need to sell key players. Dewsbury-Hall, valued at around £45 million by Tottenham, is set to move to Brighton for a fee “in excess of £25 million,” according to Romano.

Kiernan Dewsbury-Hall joined Leicester City’s academy at the age of eight and has risen through the ranks to become a first-team regular. The 25-year-old has made 129 appearances for the Foxes, scoring 17 goals and providing 20 assists.

In a 2022 interview with Sky Sports, Dewsbury-Hall likened his playing style to Premier League greats Paul Scholes and Kevin De Bruyne, highlighting his vision and versatility on the field.

While missing out on Dewsbury-Hall is a setback, Tottenham must act swiftly to secure other targets to strengthen their midfield.

The club’s focus on improving squad depth and quality remains paramount as they prepare for the upcoming season. With Ange Postecoglou emphasizing the need for change, Tottenham’s transfer strategy will be crucial in shaping their competitive edge.

Postecoglou’s vision for Tottenham includes significant changes to the squad. In May, he stated, “We need change. Change has to happen. You can’t want to alter your course and expect the same people are going to be on that.”

This mindset reflects his commitment to building a team capable of competing at the highest level, drawing comparisons to the transformative journeys of successful clubs like Liverpool and Arsenal.

Tottenham have already secured Timo Werner on a season-long loan from RB Leipzig, with an option to buy for around £8.5 million in 2025.

Additionally, Spurs are reportedly leading the race to sign Lutsharel Geertruida from Feyenoord for approximately £25 million. These moves indicate a proactive approach in the transfer market to address key areas.
