Board Director quits Spurs to join Chelsea after failing Levy and sparking exodus

Since May 2021, Kline has served as the Spurs’ CCO and board member. “Tottenham have appointed a former NFL executive as the club’s first chief commercial officer to aid in the search for a lucrative naming rights partner for their stadium,” reads the statement found in the ‘About’ section of his own LinkedIn profile.

Kline will be leaving the team, however, even if the spotless stadium is still called the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium. He has left his position, according to The Athletic, and will be joining Chelsea after a gardening leave.

On their website, Spurs issued a direct statement announcing his impending departure: “Todd Kline has resigned from his post at the Club and has been placed on a period of garden leave with immediate effect.”

According to reports, Kline attempted to ‘raise standards’ as soon as he was hired, which led to the resignation of several commercial employees. It’s also said that his leadership has raised “questions” in the Spurs’ back office.

He will, however, work with Chelsea co-owner Todd Boehly at Stamford Bridge in an undisclosed senior commercial capacity. Tom Glick, the previous president of business for the Blues, left his position in May of last year, but it is still open.
