Premier League relegation permutations and what Tottenham need after Aston Villa win

Tottenham Hotspur have climbed out of the Premier League relegation zone after securing a vital 2-1 win over Aston Villa at Villa Park. First-half goals from Conor Gallagher and Richarlison proved decisive, giving Spurs renewed control over their fight for survival with three matches remaining.

The breakthrough came early, as Gallagher netted his first goal for the club since arriving in January, firing Spurs ahead after just 12 minutes. Richarlison soon extended the lead, rising to head home from a Mathys Tel delivery following a poorly cleared corner by Villa. Although Emi Buendía pulled one back late on, Tottenham held firm to claim all three points.

The result lifts Spurs above West Ham United by a single point, with a significantly stronger goal difference further strengthening their position. Their fate now lies in their own hands — matching or bettering West Ham’s results over the final stretch will be enough to secure Premier League safety. Winning all three remaining fixtures would guarantee survival.

Tottenham’s run-in includes a home clash against Leeds United, followed by a tough away trip to Chelsea, before concluding the season at home to Everton.

Meanwhile, West Ham face a challenging schedule, starting with Arsenal, then travelling to Newcastle United, before hosting Leeds on the final day. Notably, their next two fixtures take place before Tottenham play, potentially adding pressure.

Nottingham Forest also remain in the mix, holding a game in hand. They face Chelsea next, before hosting Newcastle and Bournemouth, with an away trip to Manchester United in between.

Elsewhere, Crystal Palace and Leeds United are not yet mathematically safe. Both sides need at least three more points to be certain of staying up, despite already reaching 43 points — a total that could still mark a record high for a relegated team in a 38-game Premier League season.
