Manchester United Ready to Drop Interest in £70m ‘Superstar’ Tottenham Also Wants

In the coming weeks, Tottenham Hotspur have a chance to strengthen their squad and aim for a top-four finish next season. Ange Postecoglou had a solid first season at Spurs, securing a Europa League spot, but there’s still much work to be done to reach the top.

Numerous top players have been linked with a move to Tottenham recently, including one of the Premier League’s top talents. According to Sky Sports journalist Dharmesh Sheth, one of Spurs’ rival suitors might be ready to drop their interest in this player.

Manchester United Ready to Drop Interest in Tottenham Target Jarrad Branthwaite

The player in question is Everton’s Jarrad Branthwaite, who has been linked with Spurs and several other Premier League clubs, as reported by CaughtOffside. Tottenham is among the big teams that reportedly admire the 21-year-old defender, along with Manchester United, Arsenal, Chelsea, Real Madrid, and Bayern Munich.

The Mirror reported that Manchester United recently made an offer of £35 million plus £8 million in add-ons for Branthwaite, but Everton rejected the bid, demanding £70 million. Now, Sheth has provided an update on Sky Sports indicating that Manchester United might soon rule themselves out of the race for the Englishman.

“Manchester United won’t be drawn into a long-running saga over the potential signing of Everton defender Jarrad Branthwaite,” Sheth said. “It’s understood United are unlikely to go back in with an improved offer unless there are assurances Everton will reduce their asking price. If United feel there is no room for negotiation, they will quickly move on to other targets – with Lille’s Leny Yoro thought to be high on their list.”

Branthwaite was outstanding for Everton last season, forming a solid partnership with James Tarkowski in the center of their defense. Jamie Carragher praised Branthwaite on Monday Night Football earlier this year, calling him a “superstar” for his impressive play.

“This guy is a superstar,” Carragher said. “For a centre-back to control that with his right foot, he is a two-footed player. The control with the right foot being a delicate touch with players around him and then to finish with the left just highlights again how strong Everton are from set pieces.”

Additionally, Branthwaite’s teammate Vitaliy Mykolenko praised him in an interview with Tribuna: “If you put our Branthwaite and Zabarnyi in a pair, they can be signed for 15 years without transfers to the club. One is left central, the second is right – there is speed, there is everything. Either one or the other is very calm. I’m delighted with our central defender. He has already scored three this season. These are the top two for me.”

While Tottenham Hotspur have the opportunity to sign Branthwaite, Manchester United’s potential withdrawal from the race could make things easier. United’s reluctance to meet Everton’s high asking price and their readiness to pursue other targets like Lille’s Leny Yoro could pave the way for Spurs to secure the young defender.

Branthwaite’s impressive performances and versatility make him a valuable asset, and his addition could significantly bolster Tottenham’s defensive options. As the transfer window progresses, it will be interesting to see if Tottenham can capitalize on Manchester United’s potential withdrawal and secure Branthwaite’s services, ultimately helping them in their quest for a top-four finish next season.
