Emery Admits Tottenham Were Better in Villa Park Defeat

Aston Villa manager Unai Emery conceded that Tottenham Hotspur fully deserved their 2-1 victory after Villa suffered another disappointing result at Villa Park.

Spurs made a fast and decisive start, with Conor Gallagher and Richarlison both finding the net inside the opening 25 minutes. Villa struggled to respond early on, though João Palhinha came close with a long-range effort that struck the post.

The hosts improved slightly after the break, but clear chances remained limited. A late goal from Emiliano Buendía deep into stoppage time only served as consolation.

Emery Reflects on Tough Week

It has been a difficult spell for Villa, who also fell 1-0 to Fulham in the league and suffered the same scoreline against Nottingham Forest in the Europa League semi-final first leg.

Despite the setbacks, Emery stressed that his side still holds a strong position in the table, sitting six points clear of the chasing pack with three games remaining. A place in next season’s UEFA Champions League remains firmly within reach.

Speaking after the match, Emery admitted:

Tottenham were better, especially in the first half. They were sharp, focused, and scored quickly, which made things very difficult for us.

He added that while Villa showed some reaction in the second half, they lacked the cutting edge needed to turn the game around. Still, he emphasized the importance of looking at the bigger picture and maintaining perspective over the course of the season.

Focus Shifts to Recovery and Next Fixtures

With a busy schedule ahead, including a crucial European semi-final second leg, Emery highlighted the need to regroup both physically and mentally.

Villa’s next league outing comes against Burnley, offering a chance to bounce back and regain momentum. Emery remains confident his team can finish strongly and secure a top-five spot, underlining that their overall consistency this season has put them in a favorable position compared to their rivals.
