Dutch national media deliver interesting verdict on Micky van de Ven after he started at left-back last night
Micky van de Ven, a Tottenham Hotspur player, played as a left-back for the Netherlands against Canada.
The Dutchman was among the Premier League’s finest acquisitions in 2023. He was incredibly brilliant for Spurs in his rookie season, receiving wonderful accolades from practically everyone who saw him.
Van de Ven mostly played as a centre-back for Tottenham, but his position for the Netherlands in the Euros may be significantly different.

Micky van de Ven is a natural centre defender, but he demonstrated at the conclusion of the season at Tottenham that he can also play as a full-back.
The 22-year-old is a ball player with incredible speed, making him one of the quickest players in Premier League history.
Van de Ven was called up to the Dutch team for the Euros this summer by Ronald Koeman, and the defender started the friendly against Canada on Thursday night.
The Netherlands manager started with a back-four, with Daley Blind and Matthijs de Ligt in the centre of the defensive. Jeremie Frimpong played right back, with Van de Ven on the opposing side.
All four players performed well, and a few Dutch media sites have given their feedback on Van de Ven’s performance. Interestingly, one of them believes he may be a’serious possibility’ at left-back for the Euros.
Van de Ven received a 7/10 rating from Voetbal Premeur, who said that his initial minutes were uncomfortable, but he recovered and sometimes thundered over the left side.
“The defender of Tottenham Hotspur is a serious option for the base.”
Football Oranje rated him 7.5/10, writing: “At left back, Van de Ven impressed with his speed and power moving forward.
“He was a highlight in the first half, but faded in the second half. Still, a good effort by the defence.”

Van de Ven’s performance last time would have undoubtedly increased his chances of starting for the Netherlands in the Euros in Germany.
On Thursday night, the Dutchman played the whole 90 minutes as a left-back against Canada and was outstanding.
He got 77 touches and completed 45 of his 52 attempted passes, for an impressive 87 percent passing accuracy. Van de Ven also generated one opportunity.
Defensively, the Tottenham player won five of six duels, made three tackles, two clearances, and an interception against the Canadiens. (SofaScore)
