Tottenham manager Roberto De Zerbi has eased concerns over the fitness of Micky van de Ven and Rodrigo Bentancur following Spurs’ crucial 2–1 victory over Aston Villa at Villa Park.
The win marked a huge step forward in Tottenham’s fight for Premier League survival, lifting them out of the relegation zone and putting them just two points behind Nottingham Forest in 16th. It was also one of the team’s most complete performances of the season, with Spurs dominating the match and restricting Villa to minimal chances.
Fresh Injury Worries Emerge Amid Outstanding Display
Despite the victory, there were worrying moments late in the game.
Bentancur, who produced one of his best displays under De Zerbi, was substituted in the 67th minute. Meanwhile, Van de Ven appeared to roll his ankle during the closing stages.
Given Tottenham’s long list of injuries this season, the sight of both players struggling caused understandable concern among supporters.
De Zerbi: “They’re both fine.”
However, De Zerbi was quick to calm fears after the final whistle.
When asked whether Van de Ven had suffered any ankle damage, the Spurs boss insisted there was no issue:
“No, no, no. He’s OK.”
He also confirmed that Bentancur was not injured:
“Yes, yes, Bentancur was just tired.”
The clarification comes as a major relief for Spurs, who have relied heavily on senior players in recent weeks.
Momentum Grows, But the Job Isn’t Finished
Back-to-back victories have revitalised the Tottenham squad and fanbase, with performances finally reflecting the intensity and structure De Zerbi has been trying to instil.
Still, the manager knows their survival battle is far from over. Spurs face a decisive clash against Leeds United next Monday—a match that could define their season.
For now, though, the confirmation that both Bentancur and Van de Ven avoided injury is a significant boost as Tottenham push to secure their Premier League status.
