Chris Sutton, who has been talking about the possibility of Gallagher moving to north London on the It’s All Kicking Off Podcast, expressed his surprise at the rumor and said that it would be absolutely incredible if Tottenham were able to get one of Chelsea’s top players.
Sutton responds to Gallagher’s rumors about Spurs
The commentator gave his assessment of this possible action.
It’s amazing that one of Chelsea’s top players is heading to Tottenham during the January transfer window. Really, it shouldn’t function that way. When was the last time anything like occurred? Sincerely, I’m at a loss for ideas. The idea of the Chelsea captain joining Tottenham is mind-boggling, Sutton said.
Sutton points out that this would be an incredible action.
Deals like these are not often made by Tottenham.
When was the last time Spurs acquired a star player from one of their reputed “big six” competitors? You’re undoubtedly searching all the way back to 1997, when they signed Les Ferdinand and David Ginola from Newcastle, who were heavyweights at the time, but even then, the Premier League was a completely different place.
Although Tottenham doesn’t often engage in similar transactions, given their apparent increased ambition and Chelsea’s significant decline in popularity over the last 18 months, it’s not that absurd to think that Spurs may sign one of Chelsea’s top players.
It remains to be seen whether Gallagher pulls this off, but if he does, it may be remembered as a historic turn.
