Postecoglou issues brutally honest Werner to Tottenham transfer stance

Tottenham Transfer Stance on Timo Werner Revealed by Postecoglou

Timo Werner’s loan move to Tottenham from RB Leipzig in January has proven to be a significant addition to the north London club’s roster for the latter part of the season.

Ange Postecoglou, when pressed for insight into Timo Werner’s future at Tottenham Hotspur, opted to keep his cards close to his chest. Werner’s arrival from RB Leipzig earlier in the year has sparked discussions about a potential permanent deal, fueled by his impactful performances.

In the absence of Son Heung-min and Richarlison due to international duty and injury, respectively, Werner has shouldered the responsibility of injecting vitality into Tottenham’s attacking play.

His versatility, operating both as a central striker and on the left flank, has been instrumental in the team’s setup.

Werner’s influence was particularly evident in Tottenham’s recent 2-1 triumph over Luton, where his presence led to an own goal by Issa Kabore and facilitated a late winning goal, underlining his significance to the team’s success.

Postecoglou, addressing inquiries about Werner’s potential permanence at Tottenham, remained noncommittal, emphasizing that decisions regarding player futures will be made in due course.

“In terms of his future, like most players, the decisions will be made at the appropriate time,” stated the Tottenham manager. “I think he’s been a great signing. He’s been a really important part of our structure and I think he can also improve.”

Having made a switch from Chelsea to the Bundesliga last year, Werner’s return to top-flight English football has been met with varying degrees of success. Tottenham seized the opportunity to secure the 28-year-old’s services in January, presenting him with a new challenge.

Reports from the Guardian suggest that Werner’s loan agreement includes a purchase option, valued between £12 million to £17 million, which could be activated before the loan term expires.

Postecoglou’s commendation of Werner’s contributions hints at the likelihood of Tottenham exercising this purchase option. The head coach is eager to capitalize on a promising inaugural season following the departure of Harry Kane.

“We want to finish the season strong and keep building on the foundation of being a team that hopefully in 12 months’ time people are looking at us differently and talking about us differently,” articulated Postecoglou.

“To do that it can’t just be about where you finish and how many points you get, it’s got to be more than that. Obviously if we finish strong then we’ll finish in a decent position and we’ll see where that takes us.”
