Never looks natural: Alan Shearer left unconvinced by £15M Tottenham player despite Palace win
After seeing how one Tottenham Hotspur player played against Crystal Palace yesterday, Alan Shearer has been thinking about it.
Even though Ange Postecoglou and his Spurs team had a nervous afternoon, they were able to win three points, which they earned.
Within the context of the game, Eberechi Eze’s goal was a bit of an outlier. It was a rare Palace drive that looked like it could cost Tottenham.
However, players such as Brennan Johnson, Timo Werner, and Son Heung-min were able to lead a much-needed comeback in the end.
Spurs had a lot of time to prepare for the game, and they needed to do better than they did against Wolverhampton Wanderers. A loss or even a draw would have been very upsetting.
Having said that, Alan Shearer talked about Tottenham’s win over Palace last night on BBC’s “Match of the Day.”
Jermaine Jenas, another commentator, was giving Timo Werner a lot of credit after scoring his first goal for Spurs. Shearer was listening to him.
Even though the expert agreed with some things about Werner’s great attitude, he still had one worry.
Alan Shearer says that Timo Werner will never be very productive at Tottenham after the Palace game.
Shearer didn’t think Werner had ever looked natural in front of goal in England after he missed a few chances against Palace yesterday.
He told them, “I know he scored a lot more goals in Germany than here, but I love his attitude. But he never looks natural, never looks natural in front of goal.”
Then it is natural to look at Werner’s success in the Bundesliga and his time in the Premier League and see how they differ.
In order to do that, the £15 million scorer has scored 102 goals in 257 Bundesliga games in Germany.
The forward, on the other hand, has only scored 11 goals in 62 Premier League games.
Without a question, Werner hasn’t scored as many goals since his failed time at Chelsea.
Shearer wasn’t sure about Werner’s finish against Palace yesterday, but there’s no question that he can still give Tottenham a lot.
So, Spurs leader Son Heung-min has now talked about what he told Brennan Johnson before the win yesterday.
