From what I understand…: Postecoglou shares extent of Tottenham star’s injury after Crystal Palace dramatic win

Pape Matar Sarr, a midfielder who played only eight minutes in Saturday’s 3-1 Premier League victory against Crystal Palace, is reportedly battling with a “back issue,” according to Postecoglou.

The Metz addition, who cost Postecoglou £15 million, was a mainstay on the team sheet throughout the first part of the season but has been more erratic since returning from the African Cup of Nations.

Even though he was benched for the previous few months leading up to today’s hard-earned comeback win against Crystal Palace, Pape Matar Sarr has started only twice in Tottenham Hotspur’s last four Premier League games.

After a victory that maintained Spurs in the hunt for a Champions League berth, Postecoglou spoke to Football London and said that the Senegalese international has yet to regain his peak condition.

Pape Matar Sarr receives an update from Postecoglou

On his return from what is essentially the Africa Cup of Nations, he began to have some back pain. After seeing Sarr in apparent pain at full-time, the former Celtic manager said that Sarr has been dealing with the issue and that it is getting better, but that it is not completely free.

Therefore, we are collaborating with him on this.

“It has no effect on his training. He has continued to train. From what I gather, he will be OK, but it does limit him; we are continually addressing this. He hasn’t skipped a single training session, so it’s just something we’re addressing together.

With a furious comeback, Tottenham defeats Crystal Palace

In the middle of Tottenham’s defence, Yves Bissouma and Rodrigo Bentancur faced Oliver Glasner’s rejuvenated Palace team. Just after the hour mark, Ebere Eze scored to give the crowd a shock. But, as has been par for the course under Postecoglou, Spurs stormed back with two goals in the space of a minute.

After wasting a golden opportunity early on, Timo Werner scored the club’s first goal, setting the stage for Cristian Romero’s 80th-minute effort. Just before halftime, Captain Heung-Min Son completed the game as a match.
