Nevertheless, Spurs remain in fifth place, two points behind fourth and three ahead of sixth, despite having played 25 Premier League games and suffering several injuries over the season.

Ange Postecoglou’s skill and the strong play of their regular starters—one of whose worth has recently increased significantly—have helped the north Londoners get to this point.
The worth of Pedro Porro at Sporting
To be honest, Antonio Conte had a mixed tenure at Tottenham Hotspur.
After Nuno Espirito Santo left, the Italian gave the team some stability, and at the conclusion of the 2021–2022 season, he helped them qualify for the Champions League in the greatest manner imaginable by defeating Arsenal 3-0 and ruining their campaign.
Nevertheless, the 2022–2023 season could not have gone much worse, as Conte quit the team with “mutual consent” after the team was eliminated from both the FA Cup and Europe. Nevertheless, he did send Pedro Porro, a right-back from Spain, to Spurs for £40 million as a parting present.
The 23-year-old had an intriguing first season in English football, starting 13 of his 17 games as a right-wingback or right-sided midfielder, and playing most of his games higher up the pitch.
He ended the season with three goals and three assists, but despite his promising performance, it remained unclear whether he would be able to break into Postecoglou’s squad—a ridiculous question, in retrospect.
The worth of Pedro Porro this year
The former star of Sporting CP was mediocre the previous season, but he has excelled this time around.
Journalist Zach Lowy has referred to the “special” full-back turned wing-back as having played 25 games across all competitions, eight assists, and one goal this season.
Despite starting the five-foot-eight-inch genius as a right-back in every game this season, Postecoglou has allowed him the freedom to get forward and impact the team’s offense.
How much more often he goes into center areas this season than he did last year is the most intriguing variation in his use. His 2022–2023 heat map, for instance, makes it evident that almost all of his labor is done out wide, while this season’s heatmap makes it evident that he enters the center of the field significantly more often.
His value at Tottenham has increased due to his increased ability to impact games; the CIES Football Observatory estimates that he is now worth roughly €60m, which is about £51m, or £11m more than he cost the team only a year ago.
It’s interesting to note that this also elevates him to the top of the team’s value rankings; in contrast, club captain Heung-min Son is only worth €30 million, or £26 million.
Even if Porro may not be as valuable to the team as Son is in the long run, it makes sense to regard the Spaniard more highly than his captain given their ages and potential growth in the next five years.
