Tottenham have great interest in signing real defensive master – €18M release clause for easy deal
Jonathan Tah, a defender for Bayer Leverkusen who is available for €18 million this summer, is of “great interest” to Tottenham.
SportBILD claims that because of the release provision in his current contract, other teams are after the “defensive boss.”
According to the publication, Tah has grown into a true leader for Xabi Alonso’s team this year and established himself as an important member of the Bundesliga-winning squad.
However, his current contract expires in 2025, therefore in order to keep him from departing as a free agent in a year, he will need to be either sold or extended in the summer.
Bayern Munich is talking to him, but the defender is more interested in playing in the Premier League since he has already expressed a desire to do so.
Because of the €18 million release clause in his contract, which becomes active in the summer, Tottenham is among the teams expressing “great interest” in him and have “good chances” of completing a transfer.
There is a catch, though: Tah may only leave Leverkusen for a team that is participating in the Champions League if he chooses not to extend and instead decides to leave at the conclusion of the season.
Tottenham must therefore make sure they are eligible in order to have a chance at a move that would be simple to complete, should they be granted.
