View: Tottenham star wows in 100% display v Nott’m Forest, Alan Shearer dubs him ‘stunning’
Guglielmo Vicario, a “stunning” Tottenham player, astounded Alan Shearer with what he performed against Nottingham Forest.
Tottenham defeated Nottingham Forest 2-0 on Friday, December 15, to make it two straight Premier League victories.
After thrashing Newcastle United 4-1 in the last encounter, Ange Postecoglou’s team used that confidence to grind out three more points at the City Ground.
The goals came from attackers Richarlison and Dejan Kulusevski, but Yves Bissouma’s red card dealt a shock to the visiting team.
With the exception of that red card, the visitors played with professionalism in a difficult environment, and goalie Guglielmo Vicario undoubtedly did his share.
With only one shot on target, the Italian’s 90 minutes in a Tottenham jersey were perhaps not his busiest. But he did manage to save it, earning a 100% success percentage in saves [Sky Sports, December 16].
Vicario also registered two punches, according to Sofascore, so maybe that’s what Alan Shearer was really talking about when he included the goalie in his Premier League Team of the Week.
“Made some incredible saves and earned a clean sheet,” Shearer said on December 18 on the official Premier League website.
Vicario’s night might have been quite different had Forest been more clinical in the closing third, but he won’t care since he earned his sixth clean sheet of the season.
Only Jordan Pickford of Everton and Andre Onana of Manchester United have more, with six each [official Premier League website].
But, Tottenham is presently getting ready for a challenging match against Everton, so there isn’t time to think back on individual honours.
Vicario will also need to perform at the highest level for that match on Saturday, December 23, at Tottenham Hotspur Stadium, since the Toffees are now enjoying the joint-longest winning streak among the top five leagues in Europe [WhoScored, December 18].
That is attributable to Sean Dyche’s team’s incredible run, as they have won their past four games with eight goals scored and zero surrendered.
