Spurs and Ange now eyeing summer move for “wonderful” pressing machine with amazing end product

Spurs were involved in transfers during the January window, in contrast to several other Premier League clubs. They made the most expensive transfer of the month when they acquired Radu Dragusin from Genoa for around £27 million. They also signed Timo Werner on loan from RB Leipzig.

However, if Ange Postecoglou had had his way, North London would have also welcomed another fresh face. Spurs were willing to “push” to complete a deal before the deadline in order to acquire Sebastian Szymanski, an offensive midfielder from Fenerbahce. Despite sending scouts to see the £30 million-rated Pole in action, Postecoglou was ultimately unable in closing a deal.

Spurs are prepared to bring Szymanski back

However, according to a report from the Turkish publication Fanatik, the issue is far from resolved. With interested teams lining up, it seems likely that Szymanski won’t be at Fenerbahce for long.

Italian powerhouse Milan has designated Ange as their “primary” goal for the off-season, while Spurs and Ange have been “watching” each other for a “while” and “may make a move in the summer.” Leverkusen, the top team in the Bundesliga, wants to close a transaction in order to capitalize on their strong position.

Spurs may sign a “gem” who is prepared to put in work

Szymanski was signed by Fenerbahce from Dynamo Moscow for a mere £8.3 million last summer, and it’s beginning to appear like one of the best deals of the transfer window. One of the most prolific players in European football this season, the 30-cap Poland international has 12 goals and 14 assists in 39 appearances across all competitions.

Unsurprisingly, he has received a lot of praise for his efforts this season. Josh Bunting, a sports writer, has praised his “wonderful” skill, while under-23 scout Antonio Mango has called him a “gem”.

Importantly, he not only produces impressive offensive results but also puts in a lot of effort while not in possession. In fact, he had averaged 31.3 pressures per ninety minutes, more than any other player in the Turkish first division during the first half of the season, according to StatsBomb, and it may have played a significant role in Postecoglou’s decision to sign him.
