‘From what We’re hearing’ – Tottenham tipped to lose major hire to Hamburg this summer

An industry insider has cast doubt over Tottenham Hotspur’s chances of appointing Sebastian Kehl as their next sporting director, with the German now tipped to favour a move elsewhere this summer.

Recent reports have positioned Kehl as Spurs’ leading candidate for the role ahead of a crucial transfer window. The North London club are believed to want the former Borussia Dortmund chief to work alongside Johan Lange in reshaping the squad for Roberto De Zerbi’s first season in charge.

While talks between Tottenham and the 46-year-old have reportedly progressed, no final decision has been made — and fresh developments suggest Spurs may be facing disappointment.

Former Everton and Aston Villa CEO Keith Wyness has revealed that, based on what he’s hearing, Kehl is unlikely to take the job. Instead, the German is said to be leaning towards a move to Hamburg.

Wyness explained that Tottenham’s current instability — both on and off the pitch — is a major factor behind Kehl’s hesitation. Concerns reportedly include the club’s league position, the risk of relegation, and ongoing uncertainty within the boardroom.

He also pointed to potential complications in working alongside Johan Lange, suggesting that previous structures at the club have not delivered the desired results.

As a result, Wyness believes Kehl is unlikely to accept Tottenham’s offer and may opt for a more stable project in Germany.

Spurs are now expected to keep alternative options in mind. Names such as Dougie Freedman, Paul Winstanley, and Bournemouth’s Tiago Pinto have all been linked with the role, though it remains unclear how viable those appointments are.

Meanwhile, Dennis te Kloese — who turned down Tottenham last year — is set to leave Feyenoord at the end of the season, potentially adding another name to the market.

With a pivotal summer ahead, Tottenham’s search for the right sporting director continues amid growing uncertainty.
