Tottenham Hotspur could be about to benefit from a changing situation at Manchester City, with reports suggesting that Omar Marmoush may be available sooner than expected.
Thomas Frank’s Spurs are believed to be in a strong position to land the City attacker if circumstances continue to move in their favour during the upcoming transfer window.
Manchester City are preparing to further strengthen an already frightening forward line, and that has created uncertainty for some players on the fringes of Pep Guardiola’s plans. With City reportedly ready to activate Antoine Semenyo’s £65 million release clause, the spotlight has quickly shifted to Marmoush and what his future might look like.
According to reports, City are aware that Tottenham are closely watching the situation and are concerned they could lose the Egyptian forward if he decides his path forward lies elsewhere.
Marmoush joined City at the start of 2025 with a growing reputation and plenty of promise. Early signs were positive, and his energy, movement, and technical quality stood out when he featured. However, as the season has developed, opportunities have been limited.
The 26-year-old has struggled to cement a regular place in Guardiola’s rotation and has clocked fewer than 400 minutes of first-team football so far. For a player entering his prime years, that lack of consistent game time is far from ideal.
The expected arrival of Semenyo would only make Marmoush’s situation more difficult. With even more competition for places in attack, his chances of breaking into the starting lineup would likely shrink further.
That is why a move away, even if only temporarily, could become an attractive option for the player. Tottenham, who are actively searching for more quality and flexibility in attack, see Marmoush as a strong fit for their needs.
Spurs have had their own issues in the final third this season. Randal Kolo Muani has yet to truly settle and make the impact many expected, while Dominic Solanke’s ongoing fitness problems have disrupted any sense of rhythm up front.
Frank is keen to add a forward who can stretch defences, link play, and offer goals, and Marmoush ticks many of those boxes. He is naturally comfortable leading the line but is also capable of drifting wide or operating just behind the striker, giving Tottenham tactical variety.
From Tottenham’s point of view, Marmoush represents a ready-made solution rather than a long-term project. He has experience at the top level, is entering his peak years, and still has room to grow.
For Frank, having a player with that blend of pace, intelligence, and adaptability would be a major boost as Spurs push for consistency in the second half of the campaign.
Manchester City, however, are not keen to lose a squad player halfway through the season unless circumstances force their hand. Guardiola values depth, especially with injuries and fixture congestion always looming.
But football often comes down to timing, and if Marmoush pushes for a move in search of regular football, City may have little choice but to listen.
As things stand, Tottenham are well placed and ready to act if the door opens. Much will depend on how City’s transfer business unfolds and whether Marmoush decides that now is the right moment to seek a new challenge. If he does, Spurs could find themselves landing a proven attacking talent at exactly the right time.
