Third Tottenham Hotspur player pulls out of international duty due to injury

Tottenham Hotspur’s growing injury list has deepened as yet another first-team player has been forced to withdraw from international duty.

Ben Davies has become the third Spurs star to pull out of his national team commitments during this break, choosing instead to continue his recovery at Hotspur Way alongside several teammates who are also dealing with fitness concerns.

The club’s injury problems have been mounting in recent weeks, and the latest setback adds to Ange Postecoglou’s list of unavailable players. Randal Kolo Muani, one of Tottenham’s high-profile summer signings, was the first to withdraw after suffering a broken jaw during the 2-2 draw with Manchester United.

The France international’s injury came after a collision late in the game, and initial reports suggest he could be sidelined for at least six to eight weeks. Although Spurs have not issued an official timeline for his recovery, the expectation is that he will miss a number of crucial fixtures heading into the busy winter schedule.

A few days before that, Mohammed Kudus was also ruled out of international duty for Ghana. The winger had already missed Tottenham’s previous two games due to a minor knock and was deemed unfit to travel for his country’s friendly matches against Japan and South Korea.

The decision to withdraw was made in consultation with Spurs’ medical staff, who felt it was best for Kudus to remain in London and focus on his recovery rather than risk aggravating the issue.

Now, Ben Davies has joined that list. The Welsh defender, who has yet to make an appearance for Tottenham this season due to persistent hamstring problems, has officially pulled out of the Wales squad ahead of their World Cup qualifiers against Liechtenstein and North Macedonia.

The Football Association of Wales confirmed his withdrawal, stating that “Isaak Davies and Rhys Norrington-Davies have been added to the squad to face Liechtenstein and North Macedonia. Ben Davies, Ben Cabango, and Kieffer Moore have withdrawn due to injuries.”

For Davies, the decision is another frustrating moment in what has been a difficult period. A consistent figure in both the club and national setups for years, the 32-year-old has struggled to regain full fitness since pre-season.

Tottenham’s medical team are monitoring his progress closely, hoping he can return to training fully in the coming weeks as the squad looks to regain depth and experience across the back line.

In total, six senior Tottenham players are expected to continue training at Hotspur Way during the international break.

Alongside Davies, Kolo Muani, and Kudus, the list includes Radu Dragusin, Destiny Udogie, Dominic Solanke, Dane Scarlett, Antonin Kinsky, and Brandon Austin. These players will use the two-week period to recover from their respective issues, regain match fitness, and prepare for Tottenham’s return to Premier League action.

Reports also suggest that the club have scheduled a behind-closed-doors friendly during the break to help some of these players build match sharpness. Such games are a common practice at Spurs, allowing fringe players and those returning from injury to get valuable minutes without the intensity of a competitive fixture.

The timing of these injuries is far from ideal for Tottenham, who have enjoyed a strong start under Postecoglou but now face a challenging spell with a depleted squad.

The Australian manager has repeatedly emphasized the importance of squad depth and player rotation, and this international break provides a crucial opportunity to manage workloads and prevent further setbacks.

While fans will be disappointed not to see some of their stars in international action, the focus at the club is clear recovery and preparation. With the festive fixture schedule fast approaching, Tottenham are determined to have as many key players fit and ready as possible for what promises to be a decisive period in their season.
