What a player: Pape Matar Sarr and Micky van de Ven blown away by £45M Tottenham man
Following Tottenham Hotspur’s triumph over Luton Town, both Pape Matar Sarr and Micky van de Ven have showered praise on one of their teammates.
Tottenham’s trend of conceding early goals at home continued on Saturday afternoon, with Luton striking first as Tahith Chong found the net within three minutes with a remarkable finish.
Despite the early setback, Spurs asserted their dominance, with Heung-min Son unlucky to hit both posts, and Pape Matar Sarr’s follow-up effort cleared off the line after Timo Werner missed a golden opportunity.
The turning point in the game came in the second half, courtesy of substitute Brennan Johnson’s impactful performance.
Johnson, introduced at halftime, played a crucial role in both of Tottenham’s goals, delivering a precise ball into the Luton box that led to Issa Kabore’s own goal and providing the assist for Son’s winner in the 86th minute.
Following the match, Johnson expressed his delight on Instagram, prompting praise from his teammates, with Van de Ven describing his display as ‘top,’ Sarr hailing him as ‘What a player,’ and Guglielmo Vicario labeling him a ‘game changer.’
Despite only featuring for 45 minutes, Johnson showcased impressive statistics against Luton, registering three key passes, one tackle, and completing one dribble, as per WhoScored.
In addition to his contributions, Johnson has proven to be a valuable asset for Tottenham since his arrival from Nottingham Forest last summer, tallying four goals and seven assists.
