Not satisfied – Unhappy Tottenham player says Ange must explain why he is not being picked
Pierre-Emile Højbjerg of Tottenham Hotspur has addressed his limited playing time this season, suggesting that only manager Ange Postecoglou can shed light on the situation.
Since joining Spurs in 2020, the midfielder was a regular fixture until the end of the previous season. However, the arrival of former Celtic manager Postecoglou has seen the 28-year-old’s role diminish at the club.
Højbjerg has amassed less than 1,200 minutes across 30 appearances this season, including just six starts in the league for Tottenham.
Despite his reduced role at the Premier League side, Højbjerg’s standing in the national team remains unaffected, as he has been included in all four international breaks this season.
Following his 75th appearance for Denmark against Faroe Islands, Højbjerg spoke to Tipsbladet and other Danish media outlets about his situation at Tottenham.
Expressing his discontent, he stated, “Of course I’m not happy with what’s going on at the club. It’s not a secret, but it’s not something I make a fuss about either. I can put my head on the pillow knowing that I’m giving it my all to show the coach that he should believe in me. This is not the case at the moment, and it’s the coach who has to explain why.”
With Tottenham set to face Luton Town in the Premier League, Postecoglou may face questions about Højbjerg’s situation ahead of the match.
Despite the uncertainty surrounding his playing time, Højbjerg’s contract with Tottenham runs until 2025. Recent reports have linked him with a potential move to Juventus in the upcoming summer transfer window.
