Italian national media deliver verdict on Destiny Udogie’s performance last night after he makes big mistake
Destiny Udogie, a defender for Tottenham Hotspur, made waves Friday night during Italy’s friendly match against Venezuela.

The star of Tottenham, Udogie, was called up to Italy’s squad and made his debut on Thursday night against Venezuela.

Before the 2018 season began, Tottenham paid only £15 million to recruit Udinese’s Destiny Udogie (Sky Sports).
After returning to Spurs in the summer, he spent the previous season on loan at the Serie A club, where he excelled under Ange Postecoglou.
All season long, Udogie has been excellent. He seems to be a player who has the potential to be a true star in the next years, and he has adapted to the Premier League without any difficulty.
But in the first minute of Italy’s match against Venezuela on Thursday night, Udogie committed a grave error.
He misplaced the ball in a hazardous spot, which resulted in a penalty.
Fortunately for him, Gianluigi Donnarumma stopped Solomon Rondon’s penalty kick, and Mateo Retegui’s brace helped Italy win 2-1.
But Udogie won’t be happy with his performance.
Italian media’s response to Udogie’s show
Following the game, many Italian media sources gave their opinions on Udogie.
The Tottenham defender received a 5.5/10 rating from Eurosport, which stated: “Soft approach to the race, he loses the ball in the action that leads to Rondon’s penalty foul.”
In contrast to Italy’s right wing-back Cambiaso, he often focuses on the possession phase, serving as an extra half-wing. He commits several technological errors.
Additionally, Sky Italia rated Udogie 5.5 out of 10. “He is involved in the chaos that results in Venezuela’s penalty after two minutes,” they stated. Furthermore, the performance is marred by the inaccuracy, when it would otherwise be noteworthy for its vigour and initiative. ATTACKING!”
TMW rated him at a mere 5/10. They evaluated his performance by noting that he “started the game and lost the ball, which is how Rondon’s failed penalty came about.” He often enters the field on Spalletti’s express risk in addition to attacking the left flank, although he seldom ever plays in the centre of the action.
Sunday’s match between Italy and Ecuador will be intriguing to watch to see whether Udogie starts again.
