O’Hara thinks player would have thrived under Postecoglou had Spurs not sold him out

Jamie O’Hara said that if Harry Winks were still at Tottenham Hotspur, he would flourish under Ange Postecoglou.

Early in the summer of last year, Winks moved from Tottenham to Leicester City, the midfielder choosing not to stay and attempt to make an impression on Ange Postecoglou at his childhood club.

The 28-year-old’s choice is understandable given that his career had collapsed in the previous several years due to his lack of attention from successive management at the North London team.

The England international’s choice to go down to the Championship has paid off since he has had an incredible season so far and is the driving force behind Leicester, who are now leading the second division by nine points.

Winks acknowledged that he had lost his passion for the game during his last few years at Spurs in an interview with BBC Sport earlier this week, but has now revealed that he has found it again at the King Power Stadium.

According to O’Hara, if Antonio Conte hadn’t forced the Tottenham academy graduate out of the team, he may have been very helpful in the current Spurs lineup.

The analyst said to Grosvenor Sport, “I’ve always thought Harry Winks was a great talent. He struggled at Tottenham and I believe Antonio Conte sent him away because he wasn’t his kind of player, but I’ll tell you what—if he was there right now with Ange Postecoglou, he would be on the field!

“He plays in midfield with enthusiasm and is an Ange-type player; he retains the ball and tries to pass forward. The fact that I believe Winks is a superior player than Oliver Skipp means that I would have retained him at Tottenham.

“He’s proven his abilities and has been a terrific addition for Leicester.” “This is a Premier League club, I probably have to suffer for a season in the Championship, but this is my route to starting regularly in the Premier League,” he undoubtedly thought to himself as he entered.

Postecoglou is fond of Winks’s talents, particularly his ability to play out of tight spaces and his zeal and energy while playing.

Under coaches like Mourinho and Conte, the midfield player did make some cautious possession decisions, but Ange may have freed him up and inspired him to take more chances.
