£25m striker is ready to join Tottenham

Tottenham Hotspur still need a new centre-forward. The north London club are yet to replace Harry Kane since selling the England captain last summer, and a number of potential replacements have been linked.

Ivan Toney is one player who has been strongly linked to Tottenham, with some even claiming that Spurs had made a bid for the Brentford striker.

However, speaking on Playback, Ben Jacobs has claimed that these reports around Toney and Spurs are wide of the mark, claiming that a move for Jonathan David is much more of a concrete possibility.

Jonathan David more likely to join Tottenham than Ivan Toney

Jacobs shared what he knows about the £25m striker and Ivan Toney.

“Could Spurs go for Toney? I have denials from Spurs sources about reports a few weeks ago that Spurs made a bid for Toney and the same with Dominic Solanke, which is why I think Jonathan David is a more concrete possibility,” Jacobs said.

David may be a better option

There’s reason to believe that David may be a much better signing than Ivan Toney.

At a reported pricetag of £25m, David is much cheaper than his English counterpart, while at the age of 24, he’s a lot younger too.

David has been banging in the goals in Ligue 1 for a while now, and his goalscoring record is slightly better than Toney’s.

Of course, Toney does have the proven pedigree at Premier League level, but with Brentford looking to receive an astronomical fee for their talisman, it makes sense if Tottenham are looking towards a more value signing.

Whether or not David ends up being the striker Tottenham opt for remains to be seen, but it does look as though he’s more likely to join Spurs than Ivan Toney at this point.

One thing is for sure, Spurs need a striker through the door.
