‘You don’t score’: Neal Maupay has now roasted Manchester United star after James Maddison clash

Manchester United fans would have seen Neal Maupay wind up Tottenham Hotspur star, James Maddison.

The returning Everton striker, who was on loan at Brentford during the recently concluded Premier League campaign, had a clash with the Spurs playmaker in January.

It all stemmed from him doing Maddison’s darts celebration after he opened the scoring at the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium and now he has turned his attention to Manchester United.

Make of Neal Maupay what you wish. He is just having ‘banter’. Something he likes doing off the pitch and on the field of play also, as he says so himself.

Football needs these types of characters in the game because they aren’t shy to entertain, rather than being a boring media-trained footballer.

And Maupay is clearly the best at it, but he also isn’t shy to dish it out on himself, so this isn’t a one-way street.

During Manchester United’s FA Cup-winning run, they beat Championship side Coventry City in a penalty shoot-out, after letting a 3-0 lead slip.

As you can imagine, it wasn’t something to cheer about because Erik ten Hag’s side nearly embarrassed themselves in the worst possible way.

But Antony certainly did that when he cupped his ears towards the Coventry players during the celebrations and it was something Maupay mentioned, at the time, and how he would never do such a thing.

The Frenchman has now added to his comments by roasting the struggling Manchester United player by claiming that ‘you don’t score’ and he ‘isn’t the main player’, yet he is acting in that way, as he told talkSPORT (08/06/24 at 6:40 pm).

Neal Maupay roasts Antony after previous James Maddison wind-up

“It depends what you mean by ‘too far’,” responded Maupay to Antony’s celebration and whether he would go ‘too far’. “I don’t think that was too far. You’re not hating someone or swearing at someone.

“It’s just funny because you are Man United and you just beat Coventry in a penalty shootout. You are supposed to beat them. You need to be fighting for the title. You need to be Champions League, just to get to the cup final or semi-final by beating Coventry and doing that celebration, especially when you’re not one of Manchester United’s main players.

“So, you don’t really play. You don’t score. And then you do that. That was just funny. I don’t think he crossed the line. It’s football. Sometimes you like to give celebrations to the other team.”

Antony at Manchester United

The Brazil star isn’t part of his nation’s Copa America squad for a reason because he hasn’t been good enough for Manchester United since his big-money transfer.

Now, he did enjoy one of the moments of his team’s season when he scored against Liverpool in the FA Cup at Old Trafford.

Liverpool were heading to Wembley, at that time, yet Antony scored such a crucial goal and everyone saw what they did in the FA Cup final against Manchester City.

But overall, he has 11 goals in 82 games in all competitions for Manchester United, with only five assists. Whether you love or loathe Maupay, he is speaking the truth.
