Enrique says Liverpool would be stupid to sell 26yr old to Tottenham now
The January transfer window has sparked rumors linking a Liverpool player, Joe Gomez, with a potential move to To+ttenham.
Reports from The Mail suggest Tottenham’s strong interest in the defender, acknowledging Gomez’s recent vital contributions at Liverpool, impressively covering roles at right-back and left-back.
Discussing the potential move on his YouTube channel, former Liverpool player Jose Enrique expressed his skepticism, emphasizing Liverpool’s folly in sanctioning such a deal currently.
“Joe Gomez going to Tottenham? If I was Liverpool I wouldn’t sell him. No chance I would sell Joe Gomez in the form he’s in right now, he’s getting fit, he can play right, left or centre-back. In the summer you never know what comes, but I don’t think it would be clever for Liverpool to sell Joe Gomez right now, not a chance mate,” Enrique commented.
Enrique highlights the imprudence of Liverpool selling Gomez, given his current importance to the team.
Gomez, an England international, has been crucial in multiple defensive positions, proving his versatility and excellence, especially in his natural center-back role.
Given Joel Matip’s injury absence, losing Gomez would deplete Liverpool’s defensive options significantly, making it unwise for the club to consider parting ways with him at this moment.
However, it appears that the likelihood of this deal materializing is slim. Tottenham seems focused on the imminent acquisition of Radu Dragusin, possibly deterring any potential move that might have seen Gomez joining North London this month.
