Tottenham want seven-goal Premier League striker but face one problem
Tottenham Hotspur have reportedly expressed strong interest in Wolves’ striker Matheus Cunha, whose outstanding form this season has caught the attention of several clubs.
However, while Spurs seem eager to bolster their attacking options in January, securing the Brazilian forward’s signature during the winter transfer window may face significant hurdles.
The North London club’s search for attacking reinforcements has been driven by Richarlison’s persistent injury issues, which have left a noticeable gap in their frontline.
Recent rumors suggested that Spurs might turn to Premier League talent to solve their striker dilemma, with Ipswich Town’s Liam Delap previously identified as a potential target.
Delap has enjoyed an impressive debut season in England’s top flight, adding another name to the list of young prospects monitored by Tottenham. However, Matheus Cunha has now emerged as a priority target, thanks to his remarkable performances for Wolves.
TalkSPORT has reported that Cunha’s goal-scoring prowess and ability to thrive in the Premier League have not only impressed Tottenham but also caught the attention of Manchester United. Both clubs are said to be exploring the possibility of striking a deal for the 25-year-old striker.
Cunha, who has proven his value at Molineux Stadium with consistent performances, represents an exciting option for Spurs as they aim to maintain their strong start to the season under Ange Postecoglou.

Despite Tottenham’s interest, any move for Cunha in January appears unlikely due to Wolves’ reluctance to part with one of their key players mid-season.
Sources close to the Midlands club have revealed that Wolves’ director of football, Matt Hobbs, has assured manager Gary O’Neil that the striker will not be sold during the winter window. This stance reflects Wolves’ determination to change their reputation as a selling club following high-profile summer departures.
Wolves have recently faced criticism for offloading key players, including Pedro Neto to Chelsea and Max Kilman to West Ham. These transfers have put O’Neil under pressure to deliver results with a depleted squad.
Aware of this growing perception, the club’s management appears keen to retain their best talents, signaling a shift in their transfer policy. Keeping Cunha beyond January aligns with Wolves’ effort to build stability and competitiveness in the Premier League.
While Spurs and Manchester United may continue monitoring Cunha’s performances, Wolves’ firm stance suggests that any deal for the Brazilian forward will have to wait until at least the summer transfer window.
For now, Tottenham must explore alternative options if they hope to strengthen their attacking depth in January.
Tottenham’s pursuit of a center-forward underscores their ambition to compete at the highest level this season, but their chances of securing Matheus Cunha in the short term seem slim.
Whether Spurs can negotiate a breakthrough with Wolves remains to be seen, but the situation highlights the complexities of mid-season transfers in modern football.
