King backs Tottenham to agree player-plus-cash transfer to complete sale with PL club
Tottenham Hotspur and Southampton are reportedly negotiating a player-plus-cash deal involving Joe Rodon and Carlos Alcaraz.
According to former Spurs scout Bryan King, this potential swap could be advantageous for both clubs.
Joe Rodon’s tenure at Tottenham Hotspur appears to be nearing its end. Despite his initial promise, Rodon has struggled to secure a regular spot in the first team.
King believes the Welsh defender will benefit from a fresh start away from North London. “It looks like Rodon’s time with Tottenham is up,” King said. “He plays in a position where Spurs have spent a lot of money and have better options. At this moment in time, he doesn’t have a future with the club.”
The potential deal, as reported by Alan Nixon via his Patreon on June 23, involves swapping Rodon for Southampton’s Carlos Alcaraz.
Valued at £10 million, Rodon’s transfer would likely require Tottenham to add some cash to meet Southampton’s £30 million valuation of Alcaraz.
King supports the deal, emphasizing its mutual benefits. “I think this deal will be best for all parties. Rodon will want first-team football, Spurs will want to add some much-needed squad depth.
This deal seems feasible and I could therefore see it happening.” Rodon’s departure would allow him to pursue more playing time, while Tottenham could strengthen their midfield with Alcaraz.
Carlos Alcaraz, though not a household name, represents a promising addition for Tottenham. At only 21 years old, the Argentinian midfielder has significant potential for growth. “While Alcaraz might not be a player who gets supporters off their feet at the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium, this could still prove to be a smart bit of business,” King noted.
Tottenham’s current squad lacks depth in the midfield, making Alcaraz a strategic acquisition. Rodon, on the other hand, has become surplus to requirements.
Exchanging Rodon and additional cash for Alcaraz could provide Tottenham with a young talent who could flourish under manager Ange Postecoglou’s guidance.
