Likely to bid: Tottenham the only team in for £55M player now and could seal deal- journalist
Tottenham Hotspur are gearing up for another significant midfield acquisition this summer. Following their recent addition, Spurs are now setting their sights on Chelsea’s Conor Gallagher, with a potential bid on the horizon.
After 18 months of persistent links, Tottenham’s interest in Gallagher remains strong. Speaking on the London is Blue Podcast, Ben Jacobs highlighted Tottenham’s position as the leading contender in the race for the England international. With other clubs dropping out, Spurs are likely to make a move for the midfielder.
Jacobs provided insights into Gallagher’s situation and Tottenham’s plans. He mentioned that Aston Villa, despite showing interest, cannot afford Gallagher.
Atletico Madrid’s informal offer of €20 million fell significantly below Chelsea’s valuation, leaving Tottenham as the primary suitor.
Jacobs elaborated, stating, “Villa can’t afford Gallagher at the moment even though they made an exploratory approach. Atletico Madrid made an informal offer of about €20m, which is way below Chelsea’s valuation, so there’s nothing doing there. That really only leaves Spurs at the moment, and even with Archie Gray joining Tottenham they’ll still be in the mix for Conor Gallagher.”
Chelsea remains firm on their valuation of Gallagher, seeking a price comparable to Mason Mount’s £55 million package.
However, Jacobs suggests a bid between £40-45 million might suffice. “Right now the situation is as it has been for months. Nothing advanced with a new Gallagher deal, Chelsea want £50-55m, Tottenham are likely to bid.”
While Gallagher may prefer to stay at Chelsea, a move to Tottenham offers significant benefits. His playing style aligns well with Ange Postecoglou’s tactical approach, and staying in London would keep him close to his family, an important factor for Gallagher.
Gallagher’s potential transfer to Tottenham makes strategic sense for both the player and the club. Spurs would gain a dynamic midfielder suited to Postecoglou’s system, while Gallagher would enjoy continuity and proximity to his support network.
