”Spurs is a good club”: No bitterness over exit, Tottenham take good care of players – Former players

Troy Parrott has experienced the journey from being a promising talent within the Tottenham Hotspur academy to establishing himself as a player in the Dutch Eredivisie.

This summer, the 22-year-old forward made a permanent move to AZ Alkmaar, where he has already made a significant impact in the Netherlands. Parrott has scored five goals in the league so far, showcasing his growth as a player. Later today, he will face his former club Tottenham in the Europa League, a game that will likely carry emotional weight for the Irish striker.

In a recent interview with De Telegraaf, Parrott reflected on his time at Tottenham, expressing no hard feelings about his departure. He spoke highly of the club and the opportunities he was given during his time there. “Spurs is such a big club. I have been given a few chances to play for them, and I am proud of that,” Parrott said, showing gratitude for the experience.

Parrott emphasized that he is now focused on his own path, acknowledging that Tottenham has always been supportive of its young players. “Spurs is a good club, they have always taken good care of me,” he remarked.

He went on to explain how challenging it is for young players to break into a team competing at the top level of the Premier League. “They want to develop young players and deliver them to the first team, but that is incredibly difficult because the club is in the top 5 of the Premier League,” he added.

Despite not making a lasting breakthrough at Tottenham, Parrott holds no ill will. “It wasn’t meant to be that I broke through there. Now my own journey has begun, and I’m on my own journey.”

As for today’s Europa League game, Parrott shared his excitement and anticipation, especially with some of his family members attending the match. He recognizes the significance of the occasion, both for himself and his AZ Alkmaar teammates. “There are also some family members and friends living in London coming to the match, so it is a special match in many ways,” Parrott noted.

Facing Tottenham, a club full of world-class players, will be no easy task, but Parrott sees it as an opportunity to demonstrate his abilities. “Look, there are a few world-class players there, it’s not going to be easy.

But for me and my fellow players, it’s an exciting and beautiful evening. It’s an opportunity to show what we can do against such a big team,” he said.

Parrott has already made his mark in European competition this season, having scored against Swedish side Elfsborg in a previous Europa League match.

A goal against Tottenham would be a significant moment in his young career and could propel him toward an even more successful campaign with AZ Alkmaar. For Parrott, the match against his former club offers a chance to reflect on his journey while continuing to build his own legacy in European football.
