Tottenham star granted access to return to squad for Brighton this weekend

It appears Tottenham Hotspur supporters will get to see Yves Bissouma in action again this weekend, for the first time in over a month. The midfielder has returned to the club following international duty for Mali, and has allegedly been deemed fit to play on Saturday.

Bissouma has been representing Mali in the African Cup of Nations throughout January, but his time in the tournament came to an end on Saturday with a loss to the hosts, Ivory Coast.

Since quitting the competition, it was revealed by Mali head coach, Eric Chelle, that Bissouma had been playing despite a case of malaria. However, it was felt the matter was not too severe for the Spurs man (The Sun).

Bissouma was anticipated to carry out fairly normal evaluations upon his return to North London to establish if he would be fit for selection at the weekend, when Ange Postecoglou‘s side take on Brighton (normal).

Today, a source from The Athletic indicated that Bissouma had returned to Tottenham on Wednesday and was now going through the aforementioned testing procedure.

Now, the latest from the Daily Mail claims that evaluations have gone well for Bissouma, and the 27-year-old is now looking set to appear for Spurs in their next Premier League fixture.

The story indicates Bissouma was present at the Tottenham Hotspur training facility on Wednesday and was “being assessed” after his return from Qatar and the AFCON competition.

It is now expected Bissouma “is set to be cleared to return to action” this weekend to face his old team.

In Our View

That midfield group is becoming quite competitive lately, but I would give Bissouma the nod this weekend instead of Rodrigo Bentancur. The Uruguayan appears a touch off the pace and could do with the rest.
