74% Tottenham star goes from hero to Sloppy zero as Paul Merson slams him v West Ham
Brennan Johnson’s struggle with consistency was once again evident during Tottenham’s clash against West Ham on Tuesday (2 April).
The 22-year-old made an impactful start at the London Stadium by scoring Tottenham’s opening goal within the first five minutes, marking his seventh Premier League goal of the season.
However, Johnson’s performance gradually declined as the game progressed, drawing criticism from pundit Merson during the first half on Sky Sports News.
Merson remarked, “Johnson gets in the box and he should do better. It is not a hard pass to make and it is a sloppy pass, and that is what is happening at the moment, Tottenham are not picking the right passes.”
Ange Postecoglou will be growing weary of Brennan Johnson’s inconsistency for Tottenham, as it has become a recurring issue.
Since joining North London, the Welsh international has struggled to maintain a consistent level of performance, often fluctuating between moments of brilliance and forgettable spells.
Against West Ham, Johnson’s statistics further highlighted his inconsistency. He completed only 74% of his passes, with just one key pass and none of his crosses or long balls finding their intended targets.
While he succeeded in two out of three dribble attempts, his performance in ground duels was subpar, winning only two out of six. Additionally, he conceded possession 17 times and was dribbled past once.
Postecoglou will require a more reliable and consistent performance from Johnson if Tottenham aims to secure a spot in the UEFA Champions League next season.
