Exclusive: Tottenham set to finalize third marquee signing

Football Insider sources indicate that Tottenham is actively pursuing a deal to acquire Chelsea midfielder Conor Gallagher this month.

The ongoing discussions between the two clubs suggest a daily dialogue, and it is reported that Chelsea would consider selling Gallagher if Spurs meet their valuation, which is in the range of £45-50 million.

Spurs are keen on securing another marquee signing following the recent additions of center-back Radu Dragusin, who joined permanently from Genoa, and forward Timo Werner, initially on loan from RB Leipzig.

Financial Fair Play issues, stemming from significant recent spending, necessitate substantial sales for Tottenham to fund additional transfer targets.

Gallagher’s origins at Cobham mean that any potential sale would translate into pure profit for Chelsea. However, the notable challenge lies in the willingness of Tottenham and Chelsea to engage in business given their intense rivalry and the rarity of transfer activity between the two clubs.

The former Crystal Palace and West Brom loanee has played a pivotal role at Stamford Bridge this season, contributing with four assists and starting in nearly every Premier League game, with only one exception.

In the absence of Reece James, Gallagher has also captained the team on 14 occasions in various competitions this season.

Despite their recent 3-1 home victory over Bournemouth on New Year’s Eve, Tottenham currently occupies the fifth spot in the Premier League standings. Their next challenge is against Manchester United at Old Trafford on Sunday (14 January).

Chelsea, on the other hand, has secured back-to-back league wins, positioning them in 10th place. They are set to face Fulham in the West London derby on Saturday afternoon (13 January).
