Tottenham ‘ready to sell eight key players’ as Ange Postecoglou gets ruthless
Tottenham boss Ange Postecoglou could reportedly sell as many as eight first-team players as part of a ruthless summer clear-out. The north Londoners have endured an underwhelming finish to the campaign, having missed out on Champions League football with Aston Villa beating them to a top-four finish.
It seems Postecoglou is ready to take a bold approach to the summer transfer window as he looks to make his mark in advance of next season. He is preparing to sell as many as eight senior players, according to The Mirror, and will have the full backing of Tottenham’s hierarchy when it comes to reshaping his squad.
The likes of Emerson Royal, Pierre-Emile Hojbjerg, Giovani Lo Celso and Bryan Gil will reportedly be among the players made available next month. AC Milan have already been linked with a potential move for Emerson, while Feyenoord are said to be long-term admirers of Gil.
Tottenham will also consider offers for Oliver Skipp, Richarlison, Yves Bissouma and Ryan Sessegnon when the transfer window opens for business in June. They are expected to prioritise the signings of a new striker and a midfielder as Postecoglou looks to upgrade on the players currently at his disposal.
The Aussie is reportedly determined to improve the culture of the club after being left frustrated by their disappointing end to the season. Tottenham also failed to win a single trophy in Postecoglou’s debut campaign, with their last major success coming in 2008 when they lifted the League Cup.
Postecoglou launched a scathing attack on the culture at Tottenham following their loss to Manchester City earlier this week. A positive result for Spurs would have put Arsenal on the verge of clinching the Premier League title, with many of their fans happy to accept defeat in order to deny their bitter rivals.
“The foundations are really fragile,” said Postecoglou. “The last 48 hours have shown me that. It’s inside the club, outside the club. Outside, inside, everywhere. It’s been an interesting exercise. It is what it is. I can’t dictate what people do.
“They [the fans] are allowed to express themselves any way they want, but yeah, when we’ve got late winners in games it’s because the crowd has helped us. I want to be successful at this football club, it’s why I was brought in, so what other people think, how they want to feel and what their priorities are, are of zero interest to me.”
