Tottenham ready to outbid Liverpool’s move to sign £70M rated ace in discount deal

Tottenham Hotspur are reportedly competing with Liverpool in the race to sign Crystal Palace defender Marc Guehi, according to transfer journalist Graeme Bailey.

Tottenham’s current center-back pairing of Micky van de Ven and Cristian Romero has been effective, but the club appears to be looking for additional reinforcements at the back.

Radu Dragusin, signed last winter, has yet to establish himself as a regular starter under manager Ange Postecoglou.

Although Dragusin featured in Spurs’ Europa League match against Qarabag, he was sent off early, raising concerns about his readiness to contribute consistently.

As a result, Tottenham seem eager to bring in a new defender to bolster their defensive options. Bailey reported via TBR Football that Spurs have expressed interest in signing Guehi and could make a formal bid next year.

The Eagles had initially demanded around £70 million for the English defender during the last transfer window, but with Guehi’s contract entering its final year at the end of this season, Crystal Palace may struggle to secure such a high fee if they wait too long to sell.

While Palace are reportedly keen on extending Guehi’s contract, the player appears in no rush to commit to new terms.

If an agreement cannot be reached in the coming months, Crystal Palace will likely look to offload him in the January transfer window to maximize their profit. Waiting until next summer could see Palace forced to sell for far less than their original £70 million valuation.

Liverpool are also monitoring Guehi’s situation closely, with several other Premier League clubs, including Aston Villa, Chelsea, and Newcastle United, also rumored to be interested.

Liverpool, in particular, may see Guehi as a solution to their defensive concerns. Joel Matip’s departure on a free transfer left a gap in their backline, and with Virgil van Dijk’s long-term future at the club still uncertain, the Reds are actively seeking reinforcements.

Adding a young, talented center-back like Guehi could be a crucial step in their efforts to solidify their defense.

Guehi has emerged as one of the most promising defenders in England and has already cemented his place in the national team’s starting eleven.

His defensive abilities and composure on the ball make him an attractive option for top clubs, and signing him would be a significant coup for either Tottenham or Liverpool.

The competition for Guehi’s signature is expected to intensify as the January transfer window approaches, with both Tottenham and Liverpool eager to strengthen their defensive lines.

However, it remains to be seen which club will ultimately secure the Crystal Palace star. With interest from several top clubs and his contract situation coming to a head, Guehi’s future will likely be one of the most closely watched storylines in the upcoming transfer market.
